1st Friday Closing : Arriving Backwards

Show Closing Poster

Join us for the closing reception of Arriving Backwards: A collection of drawings by Goda Trakumaite that have been adorning the Tea Room walls for the past year!

A contrast of space, motion and stability. Inviting of eye, you are invited in to linger as little or as long as you like. This is an ending of the becoming. A “see you later”, a brief crystallization of the past/present/future. Like a piece of amber, look through it, engage, hold it in your mental hand and then release.

Can the personal become impersonal through popular magazines, zines, and iconographic imagery that shifts between natural and unnatural forms? We believe it can, as we delve into a profoundly personal narrative. Join us in experiencing this as an exclamation point—a culmination of natural and abstract forms. The seeds have been planted, the final blooming will be October 4th, 2024.

Proceeds from the Possibili-Teas of Native Plants workshops held in collaboration with Goda and the Random Tea Room are being donated to the Lenapehoking Reestablishment Project.

Summarized from their website:

“The Lenapehoking Reestablishment Project (LRP) has three current goals: the promotion of Lenape awareness, the creation and continued support of a tribal youth council, and support for indigenous arts and artistic expression. The use of public relations tools are in tandem with community efforts to address inaccuracies in the historical record. The LRP has supported the creation of a Youth Government Council composed of young Nanticoke Lenape people, as well as adopted families of other nations and territories, ranging from ages 13 – 18. Artistic and creative endeavors have included support and promotion of Indigenous Visual Art and Artists, Dancers and Musicians as teachers and performers. Classes and workshops for indigenous artmaking have been tailored to accommodate diverse settings and age groups.”
