THE RANDOM TEA ROOM WAS BORN…
Through a need for safe healthy spaces, connecting with community and a loving respect for art and music. Guests immediately feel the elevated vibrations of the environment and positive energy from the past seventeen years of RTR loving customers, artists and performers. Our extensive menu features an international selection of teas as well as an Herbal Apothecary. We feature thoughtfully crafted healing herbal infusions as well as soul satisfying tea blends. Rebecca Goldschmidt started The Random Tea Room in 2008 with a desire for a healthier lifestyle and to build a stronger connection with her community. With a BFA in Sculpture, years working in art galleries, scenic shops and antique sales, Rebecca had a lot of experience helping others run their businesses but no prior knowledge of tea. During the renovation of the Tea Room she met her Tea Sensei who taught her the “Way of Tea.” Over the years, there has been an abundance of tea and herb knowledge shared by the staff and customers. The never ending journey of the leaf has created many connections within the tea community during which Rebecca and the Cha-Ren (Tea People) of RTR have gleaned a richly diverse tapestry of knowledge which they happily share with you.
It is our desire to support your daily tea ritual with knowledge, access and style with a nod to sustainability. Using compostable bags our aim is zero waste, the paper bags and used leaves are great for your compost pile and help to produce healthy plants and vegetables. In the end, we want to serve you tea, to serve your children tea and your grandchildren tea in a clean healthy environment that promotes art, music, freedom of thought, and positive energies.

With a personality as sparkling and refreshing as this one, it sure is easy to get caught up in a conversation!
RTR has been host to Corinne's tea drinking story for about a decade. We've been growing, healing and occasionally crying together while getting stronger and more wise with every moment.
In 2016 we needed a manager to take care of our very special tea space and Corinne gracefully took up the reins. While she is rarely serving behind the bar, she is always somewhere in the background making sure that all our workings are humming a happy tune. It wouldn't be hard to say that RTR might have not made it to 18 years open without the love and energy that this human has shared, so please thank her when you see her.
Becky created The Random Tea Room out of a need for calm in a chaotic world. Before opening the space, she didn’t know much about tea, only that she was searching for something that could help her slow down and feel more present. Through that search, she discovered how deeply tea could support focus, balance, and connection, becoming a form of self-medication and mindful practice while navigating life with ADHD.
Over the past 18 years, The Random Tea Room has grown into a warm, welcoming corner of Philadelphia. A place filled with good energy, international teas, healing herbs, and community. Becky has cultivated a circle of “Cha Ren” (tea people) who come together to share stories, curiosity, and tea.
At its heart, The Random Tea Room is an ongoing experiment in connection, between people, plants and the small rituals that keep us grounded. For Becky, it’s proof that something created out of personal need can become a shared refuge for many.
